New York Times Review of I Feel Pretty

The New York Times reviewed the new film by Amy Schumer, I Feel Pretty, a film about a women who gets hit on the head with a machine at the gym and now believes she is supermodel hot, although she looks no different than she did before. The article discusses how beauty has become not just a societal expectation, but also an “ethical decision”. With the media and ads being in our face 24/7, we become sucked into being society’s expectation of beauty because it makes women feel like better people in general. However, if a women can become mindfully confident in herself, she will look equally beautiful no matter how she truly looks. But the question is, is a women’s confidence holding them back from their professional goals? Are the expectations for women now to be confident rather than be societally beautiful?
