Movie Review: Avengers: Infinity War

My Rating – 9/10

Avengers: Infinity War: The Russo brothers have crafted one of the absolute best entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 10 years of film have led up to this movie, and that’s a lot of pressure. Luckily, it soared above expectations and is easily the best of the “Avengers” trilogy. The story was very well told. There was a worry at first that the excessive amount of characters would take way from a strong narrative. However, the separate subplots all blended together perfectly.

The performances in the film were great. Josh Brolin as Thanos is certainly one of the best casting decisions in all of Marvel. He was truly terrifying, yet one could still feel for him.

The Guardians of the Galaxy had a much bigger part than expected. Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana (Star-Lord and Gamora) were very important aspects of the story. Iron Man and Spider-Man’s dynamic continued to play out. Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch were solid stand outs.

However, while the other performances were very strong, people like Black Widow, Captain America, and even Black Panther were fairly under utilized.

The visuals in the film were surprisingly well done. In the past, films like “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” “Captain America: Civil War,” and parts of “Black Panther” had rather poor visual effects, especially in climactic scenes. Gladly, “Infinity War” fell closer to “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Thor: Ragnarok” as far as effects go.

Lastly, having seen the film twice now, it was a relief to see that it has a lot of rewatch value, and that the impactful moments didn’t lose any substance.
