“Droplets” Proof of Concept – PSU.tv Annual Film Project

Set in on a present-day college campus, Droplets follows a brief period in the lives of four students from varying backgrounds and walks of life. A young woman who struggles to find balance within her life between her commitments as a tutor, sorority sister, and girlfriend. A young man attempts to conceal a personal secret that threatens to ruin his relationship, his status as an athlete, and his place among his friends. Another young man, with a secret of his own hid from parents he loves, that have sacrificed greatly to provide an opportunity for him they never had, stands up and challenges the actions of seemingly autocratic and corrupt Vice President, who has challenges of her own to face in the political arena of higher education. The silent voice in the back of class, the bowed head that quietly passes you on the sidewalk, another young man struggles with silently crippling depression, compounded by the traumatic horrors of his past, fails to find solace regardless of who or where he turns to. Not everyone’s pain or struggles are heard. Most are ignored, like the quiet pattering of rain on a rooftop.

This is a production that seeks to empower students to work in collaboration with many other like minded people from the Portland School of Film, the School of Theatre, the School of Art and Design, the School of Music, and more. The people involved in this project will not only walk away with a greater understanding of the creative process, but with many connections with people from the professional world. Lastly, and most importantly, the people in this project are put in a position of serving both the student community at Portland State and the professional community within the broader Pacific Northwest.

Droplets aims to showcase our students talents and ability to tell a relevant and motivating story, and with the support of donors like you, we can make this ambitious project a reality.
