Movie Review: Lady Bird

My Rating 9.5/10
Lady Bird: Currently this film holds 100% on the review site Rotten Tomatoes, and it will probably stay that way for a long while… if not forever. Some viewers may not find the movie to be perfect, but there is no way one could or should write a rotten review of this picture. Actress Greta Gerwig shows she is now a force in the writing and directing world, as she has made a masterful coming of age story. It is likely that she will be up for many awards.

The main cast members are exceptional. Saoirse Ronan who plays “Lady Bird” deserves the Academy Award for this performance. It is incredible how many emotions she was able to balance all at once. Her character was always frustrated, rebellious, loving, funny, introverted, and extroverted all at the same time. Laurie Metcalf who played Ronan’s emotionally distant mother also deserves the Academy Award. Her character while being very closed off had some of the most endearing moments in the film.
The supporting cast a bit underused, but it doesn’t take away from the overall feel of the film. Each supporting character represented a moment in “Lady Bird’s” life. Though those moments are slightly rushed, the audience still gets just enough time to feel each one of them.
